Edward J. McAndrew

Partner & Co-Chair, Privacy & Data Security Group, Ballard Spahr LLP, Faculty Member of the Compliance, Governance & Oversight Council

Edward J. McAndrew is a partner and co-chair of the Privacy and Data Security Group at Ballard Spahr LLP. He previously served for nearly a decade as a federal cybercrime prosecutor in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Delaware. His work spanned every major area of technology-facilitated crime, including some of the Department of Justice's most significant cybercrime cases, such as the first US prosecution of a foreign hacker for theft of trade secrets and the first US prosecution of a Chinese national for cybercrimes committed entirely from China. Named a "Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Trailblazer" by The National Law Journal, McAndrew now serves as a counselor, investigator, and trial lawyer on cybersecurity, digital privacy, cyber-incident response, regulatory compliance, commercial, employment, intellectual property, civil, and criminal matters. He also advises clients on cyber-based national security issues, as well as governmental demands for data and assistance in investigations.

McAndrew also serves by appointment on the Delaware Supreme Court's Commission on Law and Technology. He leads the Commission's Data Security Working Group. He is also a frequent speaker and writer on cybersecurity, digital privacy, law enforcement, computer forensics, and other Internet issues.
