PRESS RELEASE

NEW YORK, November 13, 2012 ― Vigilant, Inc., a provider of managed security monitoring services and threat intelligence services, announces the availability of its Collective Threat Intelligence (CTI) Portal. Subscribers to Collective Threat Intelligence feeds will use the CTI Portal to facilitate faster investigation of malicious, or potentially malicious, activity in their IT environments, reducing the time it takes to respond to security incidents.

When a security incident occurs, an analyst typically uses many separate on-line resources to validate whether malicious activity is occurring, and to gain an understanding of the attack techniques in order to respond effectively. The CTI Portal gives incident response teams a single place to retrieve contextual information about the threat activity, including categorization of the threat, a historical picture of how long it has been known to exist, and possible variants of the activity to look for. Vigilant also assigns a numerical score that indicates how dangerous the threat is likely to be.

"For most organizations, the question is not whether security incidents will occur, but rather when they will occur and how much damage they'll do," said Wendy Nather of 451 Research. "One key to reducing the impact of threats is to reduce the time it takes to analyze what's happening. This can be especially difficult because today's threats are not just a single event, but typically a complex chain of activities. You need to quickly piece together a more complete picture of what's occurring."

Subscribers to Vigilant's Collective Threat Intelligence services receive a data feed that is updated daily and contains a wide range of information about global cyber-threats. It can be integrated into a wide range IDS, firewall, SIEM, and other devices for detection of malicious activity. The CTI propriety scoring system helps security personnel determine which potential threats are most important to investigate.

"Today's monitoring systems generate too many alerts," says Lance James, Vigilant's director of threat intelligence. "When security analysts try to investigate them, they have to wade through way too much data to find the answers they need. The CTI feed draws attention to alerts that matter most, and now the portal provides one place to quickly get relevant contextual information. We equip the analyst with tools that speed up the whole defense process by eliminating the information overload."
