M86 Security Releases Enhancements to its Flagship Email Security Solution MailMarshal

M86 MailMarshal SMTP 6.8 Offers Enhanced Features for even Greater Protection against Unknown Malware Threats and Compatibility with the Latest Microsoft Operating Systems

Infosec Europe 2010 - Earls Court - Booth F90

Orange, Calif. - April 27, 2010 - M86 Security, the global expert in real-time Web and email threat protection, today announced M86 MailMarshal SMTP 6.8, the latest version of the strongest email threat protection software available on the market today. The new version is now fully compatible with Microsoft' Windows' 7 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2. It also includes a powerful new quarantining feature for blended threats, which can defeat or bypass traditional gateway antivirus and spam solutions by embedding a URL link onto a legitimate-looking Website that often executes automated, drive-by downloads, infecting users and exposing them to vulnerability exploits.

The volume of malicious spam has increased fivefold over the past year; reaching three billion messages per day, compared to 600 million messages per day in the first half of 2009, according to M86 Security Labs research. M86 MailMarshal's new configurable quarantining feature, combined with its unique Blended Threat Module (BTM), significantly increases an enterprise's defenses. Suspicious messages can be held in a queue while the BTM performs real-time behavioral analysis on any contained URLs. This sophisticated approach to combating malicious spam ensures that the window of opportunity for these threats is closed.

"With almost one out of three email messages containing blended threats, email security remains a significant problem," said Werner Thalmeier, vice president of product management, M86 Security. "In hundreds of customer deployments, MailMarshal has already proven effective at blocking this type of malware. The new additions, which have been developed in close collaboration with our customers, significantly increase the value of our email security management platform and are poised to keep organizations secure now and in the future through both our traditional on-premises and cloud-based deployments."

M86 MailMarshal SMTP 6.8's new quarantining feature can also be applied to anti-virus rules. For example, if a user's anti-virus signature engine is out-of-date, emails with suspicious or unexpected attachments can be held back until they can be scanned with an up-to-date engine, adding an additional layer of protection from emerging threats. This feature allows administrators to create and enforce their own security paradigm in a time scale that is acceptable to their organization.

New features in M86 MailMarshal SMTP 6.8 .Compatibility with Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Server 2008 R2 - customers can benefit from the increased and enhanced support for virtualization, among other improvements introduced in the latest versions of the underlying Operating Systems. .Improved database security options - database connections can now be made with Windows-based accounts using NTLM. MailMarshal can now also automatically assign user rights allowing database security to be more easily managed. This is especially useful in organizations where the database administrators and the email security administrators are parts of different teams or located at different offices. .Improved options for end-user spam management - including the ability for individuals to select which message digests they wish to receive and the ability to add senders to a white list from the message digest email, without the need to visit the Spam Quarantine Manager website. .Enhanced dashboard for quick access to summary information - providing the ability to view statistical and trending information of inbound and outbound email over different periods of time.
