PRESS RELEASE

CALGARY, Dec. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - Hitachi ID Systems ran its first annual Data Security Survey to gauge organizations' perception of their own IT security.

The survey, which ran over a period of 6 weeks, garnered responses from hundreds of participants from over 16 industries; 60% of these respondents reported working in an organization with at least 1000 employees.

Participants reported data security concerns ranging from data breaches to compromise of privileged passwords. Respondents reported that their organization must protect a variety of sensitive data types, including employee records, personally identifying data, credit card information, bank account numbers, research documents and financial data. Interestingly, only 15% of participants indicated that their organization currently employs a privileged access management system.

While 33% of respondents reported that their organization currently implements "strict" controls, only 21% indicated that they were "completely confident" in their data security measures. The majority of respondents (55%), reported that their organization is only "somewhat protected" against security threats.
