Dark Reading Preps Week Of Show Coverage At Black Hat USA
Want to know what's happening in Vegas? Dark Reading's got the goods.
Sometimes, the things that happen in Vegas don't stay in Vegas.
Well, okay, we might not tell any tales about the parties or after-hours functions at one of the world's largest IT security conferences in Las Vegas Aug 1-6. But when it comes to keeping you up to date on the new vulnerabilities and technology news coming out of this week's Black Hat USA 2015 conference, Dark Reading promises to be your broadest and deepest source of news and information.
You can start with Dark Reading's Black Hat news page. There you'll not only find the latest from our colleagues at the Black Hat Events organization, but more than a dozen stories about Black Hat talks, topics, and speakers. During the course of this week, we'll be posting at least a dozen more stories about the new vulnerabilities being unveiled at the conference -- many of them sneak-previewed to us by Black Hat speakers and set to post as soon as the talks are complete. If you're a Black Hat attendee or a subscriber to the Dark Reading newsletters, you'll also get the latest news sent directly to your email box, in a special three-day edition.
But that's only the beginning. This year, Dark Reading will be doing a live, streaming-video News Desk that will feature three hours of coverage from the Black Hat show floor. Hosted by Dark Reading senior editor Sara Peters, the coverage will feature interviews with top speakers, insight from experts who are evaluating the new vulnerabilities, and the latest in research from around the industry. You can view the video stream from the show floor, from the Dark Reading website, or from the websites of our sister publications, InformationWeek and Network Computing.
If you prefer audio to video, Dark Reading's Curt Franklin will be hosting two special editions of Dark Reading Radio on Aug. 5 and 6, offering interviews with some of Black Hat's most interesting speakers. Those broadcasts will be followed by Dark Reading's regular monthly radio program on Aug. 19 at 1pm EDT, in which editors will offer additional interviews with speakers, as well as insights on what went well -- and not so well -- at the conference.
Dark Reading will also be discussing new research at Black Hat. In one sponsored workshop entitled What Information Security Pros Really Worry About, I will join with Veracode CTO and co-founder Chris Wysopal to offer some pre-publication nuggets from the upcoming InformationWeek/Dark Reading Strategic Security Survey, as well as the recently-published 2015 Black Hat Attendee Survey. The workshop will offer insights on enterprise implementation of security technology and the confidence (or lack of it) surrounding security pros' ability to prevent the latest threats.
Dark Reading editors will be doing interviews and moderating sessions throughout Black Hat week. On Thurs. Aug. 6 at 3:30 PDT, I will be hosting a panel of IT hiring and recruiting experts in a sponsored panel entititled How to Find a Better Job in IT Security. The workshop, sponsored by Accenture and featuring experts such as Lee Kushner, Accenture's Kevin Oswald, and Rapid7's Nicholas Percoco, will offer advice on how to search out new opportunities and advance your career -- and how enterprises and research firms do their hiring.
In another discussion of careers, hiring, and staffing, Dark Reading executive editor Kelly Jackson Higgins will be moderating a Black Hat special event, Beyond the Gender Gap: Empowering Women In Security on Thurs. Aug. 6 at 1pm PDT. At this unique panel, attendees will have an opportunity to hear about the many ways that the industry is seeking to bring more women to the IT security workforce, and how your organization can get involved.
Kelly Jackson Higgins and I will also be doing interviews and moderating panels at the Black Hat CISO Summit, a special all-day event offering expert insights and discussions specifically for those who hold the title of chief security officer in their enterprises. Kelly and I will have the privilege of interviewing top security experts such as Jeremiah Grossman of WhiteHat Security, Douglas Maughan of Department of Homeland Security, and international cyber security expert and author Rod Beckstrom.
Oh, and in case you think that's all, it isn't. Tomorrow, Dark Reading will unveil a new special feature of the site that is designed to help security professionals advance their careers -- and top enterprises find the people they need. More information on that new feature will be in tomorrow's Dark Reading postings.
Fasten your seat belts, folks, it's going to be a busy week. If you're in Las Vegas, look us up on your mobile devices, or on the TV screens around the exhibit floor. If you're in the office or at home, check us out on whatever browser's handy -- we'll do our best to make sure you don't miss anything.
