PRESS RELEASE

ATLANTA " October 20, 2009 " Damballa, Inc., a security company focused on protecting enterprises from botnet breaches, today announced that it has joined the McAfee' Security Innovation Alliance (SIA) partner program. As a member of the program, Damballa will integrate its Failsafe botnet identification and mitigation appliances with the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator' (ePO) platform. This combination will give enterprises greater visibility and protection against the rapidly increasing number of bot-driven network attacks.

"Botnets have quickly become a significant vector for corporate fraud on the Internet. Many enterprises may not be aware that their PCs have been breached by botnets, or that these compromised systems host botnets and enable online crime," said Steve Linowes, CEO of Damballa. "Our partnership with McAfee will benefit customers by simplifying and accelerating the integration of botnet defense into the existing enterprise security fabric. It also represents a first step in Damballa's strategy to offer a comprehensive approach to enterprise risk management for a wider base of customers."

Bot-driven attacks are a real and growing threat to enterprises that create serious security breaches and jeopardize the data integrity of organizations. In a recent three-month study of 600 different botnets, Damballa found that up to nine percent of machines in a typical enterprise are already compromised by botnet breaches.

Damballa Failsafe delivers automated, high-fidelity protection against botnets by rapidly identifying botnet communications and intent. Failsafe then mitigates and disrupts malicious botnet activity. Failsafe integrates this enhanced insight into network and security infrastructure, which enables existing investments in enterprise security to work more efficiently and more effectively. Failsafe also provides detailed information on botnet malware, including directions on how best to remediate botnet breaches on individual compromised systems. The result is an automated, flexible network security defense that responds to current and future threats to the enterprise.

"We are pleased to welcome Damballa into the SIA program," said Ed Barry, senior director of the McAfee Security Innovation Alliance. "In recent years, bot threats have clearly grown as a threat vector for malicious cyber criminals. The bot detection capabilities of Damballa's Failsafe appliances complement the capabilities of ePO. When this integration is complete, it will offer our mutual customers a more complete security risk management solution."

The McAfee SIA is a technology partnering program created to help accelerate the development of interoperable security products and to simplify the integration of these products within complex customer environments. Working together, McAfee and its partners deliver solutions more comprehensive than those available from any single vendor. The ePO console is the first platform that lets enterprises and governments centrally manage security and compliance products from multiple vendors, offering unprecedented cost savings and return on investment.
