Atlanta – February 4, 2014 - Damballa, the experts in advanced threat protection, today announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office has issued Damballa Patent # US20120198549 for its "Method and system for detecting malicious domain names at an upper DNS hierarchy", which describes a proprietary methodology for identifying potential malicious domain names that are used to propagate malware and other advanced threats. Earlier this year, Damballa announced that it has been granted two other patents that describe methods for responding to attacking networks as well as new methods for detecting malware.

Patent # US20120198549 describes a method and system for detecting a malicious domain name. The system is comprised by collecting domain name statistical information from a non-recursive domain name system name server (RDNS NS); and utilizing the collected domain name statistical information to determine if a domain name is malicious or benign.
