May 25, 2011
PRESS RELEASE
Sunnyvale, CA May 24, 2011 Commtouch' (Nasdaq: CTCH), a leading Internet security provider, announced today that it is rolling out solutions to protect against the significantly higher threat potential created by the technological flexibility of IPv6.
With World IPv6 day planned for June 8th, Commtouch is sponsoring a series of on-demand webcasts to educate about IPv6 and what it means for businesses networks. In the first webcast An introduction to IPv6, Limor Schafman, president of KeystoneTech Group, and Dale Geesey, COO of Auspex Technologies, cover what IPv6 is, why its different, the advantages, the transition period from IPv4 and how organizations should start preparing.
IPv6 brings significant opportunities both business and technical and will require well-planned deployment and management, said Mr. Geesey. We plan to provide organizations with the baseline they need to begin to leverage the benefits and overcome the implementation hurdles.
The vastly increased address space available in IPv6 significantly reduces the effectiveness of traditional blacklisting methods, making it harder to associate a rogue computer with its source address. In addition, network infrastructure requires upgrading in order to parse, route and store addresses in the new format.
Commtouchs cloud-based GlobalView Network and engine technology will soon include new functionality to protect against the threats posed by IPv6. The Commtouch services expected to be enhanced by the end of Q3 2011 include: GlobalView Mail Reputation, Anti-Spam, Zero-Hour Virus Outbreak Protection, and GlobalView URL Filtering.
IPv6 is expected to create many challenges on the security front, said Amir Lev, Commtouchs chief technology officer. Readying our network and products, as companies start IPv6 deployment, illustrates our commitment to proactively dealing with new threats.
Commtouch will be providing descriptions of the new types of threats to be expected on its IPv6 website (only IPv6 enabled users may access this Commtouch site).
