The free Hybrid Analysis malware research site used for investigating and detecting unknown malware threats now includes an accelerated search feature that roots out matches or correlations in minutes, rather than hours.
CrowdStrike donated its Falcon MalQuery new rapid-search feature to the Hybrid Analysis community platform, which has some 100,000 active users worldwide. Hybrid Analysis was acquired in fall 2017 by CrowdStrike, and also employs CrowdStrike's sandbox technology.
"Hybrid Analysis is focused on dynamic analysis of malware," says Dmitri Alperovitch, co-founder and CTO of CrowdStrike. He says the addition of Falcon MalQuery lets researchers search across a larger repository of malware with Yara and search malware correlations within a few seconds, rather than 24 hours, as was the case with some searches.
"We realized lots of researchers can't afford a commercial solution, so it made sense to" add Falcon MalQuery to the Hybrid Analysis, Alperovitch says.
