SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SonicWALL, Inc. , a leading secure network infrastructure company, today announced a new Clean Wireless solution combining 802.11n wireless controller functionality in NSA and TZ firewalls with SonicPoint-N Dual-Band smart access points. The Clean Wireless solution works by scanning all wireless traffic using the SonicWALL patented Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection technology, delivering comprehensive protection from viruses, spyware and other malicious network threats on the wireless network by scrutinizing wireless traffic with the same intensity as wired traffic. The Clean Wireless solution enables IT administrators to build high-performance, distributed wireless networks with unified policy management across both the wireless and wired networks.
With the release of SonicOS 5.2, SonicWALL has expanded the integrated secure wireless controller software with Clean Wireless technology for NSA E-class, NSA and TZ 210 Unified Threat Management firewalls to include the high speed 802.11n wireless standard. Wireless functionality is easily distributed throughout a network using up to 128 SonicPoint-N Dual-Band smart access points, which are self-discovered and automatically provisioned by the firewall's integrated wireless controller to deliver centralized security policy management. This two-pronged strategy greatly simplifies administration and maintenance and reduces the cost of deploying and maintaining a mixed wired and wireless network environment.
"People are under the misconception that simply by turning on built-in wireless encryption, their wireless communications are secure. They are wrong," said Patrick Sweeney, Vice President of Product Management at SonicWALL. "The wireless network is only truly secure when you not only encrypt the traffic, but are also able to clean every packet from content based threats like viruses and malware."
The secure wireless controller is available in SonicOS 5.2 firmware and in addition to SonicPoint management, provides wireless encryption, wireless intrusion detection, virtual access point support, wireless roaming and integrated wireless guest services. SonicOS 5.2 firmware is available for download immediately for TZ and NSA firewall customers with active support contracts.
Based on the IEEE 802.11n draft 2.0 standard, the SonicPoint-N Dual-Band access point enables up to 300 Mbps wireless data rates using 3x3 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology, packet aggregation and channel bonding to result in a better wireless user experience for anyone using either legacy 802.11a/b/g clients or new 802.11n clients. The SonicPoint-N Dual-Band access points are available immediately through worldwide SonicWALL distribution channels.
"As more of our customers have their workforces become mobile, we need a way to provide LAN equivalent security and performance in a wireless network without significant implementation and management overhead," said Stephen Kolbe, President of AnalySYS Enterprises, Inc., a SonicWALL Managed Security and Gold partner. "The new SonicWALL wireless solution enables us to quickly deploy a highly secure and scalable wireless infrastructure - while leveraging the most innovative 802.11n technology - to the benefit of our own employees and our customers' employees."
