Over 5,000 Swedish Websites Hacked in a Week
Likely in protest of controversial Swedish newspaper drawing of the Prophet Muhammad
A wave of Website hacks throughout Sweden during the past week has been linked to a Turkish network, according to a fuzzing tool published report. Around 5,400 Swedish Websites have been attacked, some defaced with messages, including one on a children's cartoon Website saying that Islam's prophet had been insulted, the Sydney Morning Herald reports today.
Speculation swirled around Sweden that the attacks, which began about three weeks ago, are in protest of an Aug. 19 drawing in the Swedish newspaper Nerikes Allehanda that portrays the prophet Muhammad's head on a dog's body. The drawing appeared with an editorial and drew protests from Muslim groups in Sweden as well as in Iran and Pakistan.
The attacks have been reported to Swedish authorities, according to the report.
