Scratch the name Marshal8e6 from your list of security vendors -- the new name is M86 Security.

Marshal8e6 -- which was formed through the merger of the U.K.-based email security company Marshal and U.S.-based Web security vendor 8e6 Technologies last November -- acquired behavioral malware analysis vendor Avinti in April. The combined firm, M86, now calls itself the "largest independent provider of Web and email content security in the world."

M86 will look to strike an even balance between Web and email security, says Eric Lundbohm, vice president of Americas marketing.

"There are a lot of companies out there now that do both Web security and email security, but when you really look at them, you find that most of them major in one and minor in the other," Lundbohm says. "We think that you have to have expertise in both -- and the ability to predict what's going to happen down the line -- if you're going to handle today's blended threats."

The company plans to ship new products under its rebranded name in the near future, starting with a new Web filtering tool that will be unveiled next week. A new version of the MailMarshal email security product will ship in October.
