PRESS RELEASE

Raleigh, NC September 14th, 2010 – CipherOptics, the leader in scalable network encryption, announced a new line of Variable Speed Encryption (VSE) appliances. While traditional encryption appliances are based on a static throughput, the new VSE line of network encryptors will allow customers to purchase a hardware platform that can encrypt at various throughputs, based on bandwidth licenses. The Variable Speed Encryptors also provide an affordable software-based upgrade as customer’s bandwidth and security needs increase.

“With static encryption speeds typically at 10Mbps, 100Mbps, or 1Gbps, many organizations have been forced to either pay for more encryption than they need or restrict the throughput of their network to match the encryption,” explained Thomas Gill, CEO of CipherOptics. “With our new line of Variable Speed Encryptors, our customers have a flexible and affordable entry point for compliance and data security with an upgrade path that provides investment protection as their business needs grow.”

The delivery of the Variable Speed Encryptors marks another milestone in CipherOptics’ rich history of innovation and industry firsts. Previous innovations from CipherOptics include the first Gigabit Ethernet Encryption Appliance; the industry’s first Group Encryption solution, CipherEngine; and the industry’s first multi-layer encryption platform.

"CipherOptics' goals when delivering network encryption products are to make it secure, affordable, and easy to manage, and to not degrade network performance. Variable Speed Encryption is designed to satisfy these conditions", said Charles Kolodgy, Research Vice President, Security Products for IDC. "The Variable Speed Encryptors will allow customers to be creative in the deployment of network encryption and protect their existing security investments by incrementally increasing encryption throughput as their network needs grow."

The Variable Speed Encryption appliances will be available in three platforms with bandwidth licenses based on common WAN link speeds. The CEP10 VSE will offer bandwidth licenses for 3, 6, 10, 25, 50 and 75 Mbps of encrypted throughput. The CEP100 VSE will offer licenses for 100, 155, and 250 Mbps. The CEP1000 VSE will include throughputs of 500 Mbps, 650 Mbps and 1Gbps.

All of the VSE platforms will be compatible with CipherOptics’ CipherEngine group encryption solution and will offer the highest levels of data protection at Layer 2, Layer 3 and Layer 4. With this new platform, CipherOptics offers its customers the ability to increase their encrypted throughput for only the cost difference between the price of their current throughput and their desired performance, eliminating the growth penalty normally associated with increasing encrypted bandwidth. General availability is slated for mid-November.
