PRESS RELEASE

Campbell, Calif., Dec. 2, 2010 – Barracuda Networks Inc., a leading provider of content security, data protection and application delivery solutions, today launched the new Barracuda Email Security Service, an affordable, reliable and comprehensive cloud-based email filtering service. This new service can be leveraged as a cloud protection layer for the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall when deployed in hybrid mode, providing customers with the best of both worlds: onsite email protection backed by the scalability, reliability and continuity benefits of the cloud.

Using Barracuda Networks’ powerful new email security service as a pure cloud offering or with the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall in hybrid mode, customers will benefit from:

Dual Protection Points – comprehensive onsite and cloud-based threat protection including the Barracuda Anti-Virus Super Computing Grid and Barracuda Advanced Anti-Fraud Intelligence.

Email Burst Handling – email surge suppression during peak traffic and spam spikes, which offloads a significant volume of spam email to be filtered via the cloud.

Immediate Response – automatic updates in real-time leveraging threat intelligence from Barracuda Labs and Barracuda Central to continuously stay ahead of quickly morphing threats.

Email Continuity – email spooling provides queuing for up to four days and backup MX for email rerouting to a separate destination ensure seamless disaster recovery capabilities in the event of network downtime or system outage.

Email Encryption – email encryption in the cloud with centralized key management.

“As email threats become more dangerous, customers are demanding more robust capabilities and greater flexibility in deployment options,” said Dean Drako, president and CEO of Barracuda Networks. “The new Barracuda Email Security Service provides customers with a relevant option to block threats before they reach the network and save on bandwidth and continuity. Barracuda Networks offers the most comprehensive set of delivery options – from on-premises, to pure cloud to a combination of the two – to meet the most demanding customer requirements.”

Once email passes through the cloud protection layer, the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall filters email according to more granular policies, recipient verification, quarantining and more.

By contrast, customers that opt to deploy the Barracuda Email Security Service as a pure-cloud offering without the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall will still benefit from full inbound and outbound email filtering, user quarantine and, multi-domain management.

“As cloud technologies continue to mature, we are seeing a tremendous uptick in the number of organizations moving toward hybrid or pure cloud email security offerings,” said Phil Hochmuth, program manager for security products at IDC. “Barracuda Networks is well-positioned for this shift to cloud and hybrid, with a strong integrated appliance/SaaS offering, as well as a simple pricing structure, strong brand and expansive global channel footprint.”
