PRESS RELEASE
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- Apr 20, 2009 TippingPoint, a leader in intrusion prevention, today announced availability of the TippingPoint' 10 Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). This new product is designed to help enterprise organizations keep malicious traffic off their remote office and/or branch office networks. Additionally, the design of the device opens the door for managed security service providers (MSSPs) to offer more value-added services to their small to medium-sized business customers.
The TippingPoint 10 is a full featured IPS in a small form factor that preserves availability, performance and security on remote networks. Like all of TippingPoint's IPS solutions, the TippingPoint 10 provides comprehensive traffic inspection and filtering using TippingPoint's Digital Vaccine' service to identify and block security threats before they impact the network. Customers using the TippingPoint Security Management System (SMS) can easily manage multiple TippingPoint 10 units and quickly administer and deploy filters that will keep remote offices from being taken offline by security attacks.
Addressing the Network Security Challenges of the Remote Office
Large organizations with numerous branch offices face a unique set of challenges " the remote office networks must remain highly available and productive, yet often these offices do not include IT or networking personnel who can maintain them. The TippingPoint 10 delivers the proven reliability, redundancy, performance and security accuracy to keep these remote offices up and running without the risk of blocking legitimate traffic that is critical to local operations, unlike many "all in one" security devices.
"Many large organizations rely on branch offices to keep business running smoothly " banking, insurance, manufacturing, etc. These offices are often the front lines for an organization's localized customer service, so high availability is paramount," said Richard Stiennon, founder of IT-Harvest. "They are also a direct link into the organization's critical data, meaning security should not be taken lightly."
The TippingPoint 10 is easily installed in remote office networks by local personnel in minutes and immediately begins filtering out malicious and unwanted traffic. The IPS is deployed seamlessly with no IP or MAC address configurations. All systems ship with "Recommended Settings," which provide preconfigured policies that automatically and accurately block attacks without any tuning, significantly reducing the amount of time and resources required to protect and maintain a healthy network. The TippingPoint 10 also provides traffic management to stop bandwidth hogging applications like Peer-to-Peer and Instant Messaging. This approach decreases IT security cost by eliminating ad-hoc patching and alert response, while simultaneously increasing IT productivity through bandwidth savings and protection of critical data and applications.
Providing Easy Manageability for Managed Security Service Providers
The TippingPoint 10 provides MSSPs with a new value added service to provide to customers. Currently, the options for MSSPs to provide security services to customers are through on-site management or in a hosted, "cloud" environment where traffic from all clients is run through one network. With the TippingPoint 10, MSSPs can provide their customers with a full featured on-site IPS that can be easily managed remotely.
"Our customers were looking for a way to provide in-line IPS " with all of the benefits of immediate blocking and thresholding " to smaller, remote offices," said James Collinge, director of product management at TippingPoint. "The TippingPoint 10 solves this customer need for an ever increasing IPS role in the enterprise network providing reliability, performance, security accuracy and ease of use."
Availability and Pricing
The TippingPoint 10 IPS is now shipping to customers. Pricing for the TippingPoint 10 varies by volume purchased. For more information on the TippingPoint 10 IPS, please visit http://www.tippingpoint.com/tp10.
