PRESS RELEASE

Columbia, MD – October 27, 2010 -- Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq: FIRE), the creator of Snort' and a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, today unveiled its expansion into the Next- Generation Firewall (NGFW) market and introduced three new Defense Center Awareness Bundles for its Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS). The combined solutions provide organizations comprehensive threat protection – securing the perimeter, data center and cloud.

Building upon its technology leadership in Next-Generation IPS and contextual awareness technologies around applications, operating systems, users and devices, Sourcefire' plans to expand its security portfolio to include Next-Generation Firewalls. The planned NGFW expansion will focus on enhancing application identification and control – providing customers more protection through application policy management.

“I am excited to announce our plans to expand our addressable market into Next-Generation Firewalls by leveraging our leadership in Next-Generation IPS and awareness technologies,” said John Burris, CEO at Sourcefire. “As the pioneer in providing application intelligence in IPS solutions, Sourcefire is uniquely positioned to seamlessly add NGFW features to our solution-set. We have a proven track record of supporting large-scale enterprise deployments and remain firm on our resolve to protect our customers and to constantly innovate.”

Available now, the Sourcefire NGIPS Awareness Bundles ease purchase and adoption while providing contextual awareness to accurately identify real threats, an open architecture to enable customization for a customer’s unique environment and intelligent automation for impact assessment and IPS tuning.

“Sourcefire has plugged a hole in IPS-laden technologies, which often create an exorbitant number of security events and feature a closed architecture that forces users to accept default rules,” said Charles Kolodgy, research vice president, IDC. “Static defenses can’t protect against today’s dynamic network threats. The Sourcefire Next-Generation IPS is aware, adaptive and automated – giving users visibility into what is running on their networks, what is vulnerable and what could be under attack.”

Sourcefire Next-Generation IPS Key Differentiators:

* Contextual Awareness –A powerful combination of insight into networks, applications, behaviors and identities for maximum security and reduced total cost of ownership in managing evolving threats. * Open Architecture – Enables users to easily create custom rules for their unique environment. Sourcefire Next-Generation IPS users can leverage the collaboration and innovation of the Snort community, the industry-leading vulnerability-based rules from the Sourcefire Vulnerability Research TeamTM (VRT), as well as custom rules to provide the most comprehensive coverage available. * Intelligent Automation – Leverages real-time contextual awareness to automate both the critical tasks of impact assessment and IPS tuning. Sourcefire NGIPS uses real-time intelligence to automatically correlate attacks to potential vulnerabilities, manage policies and significantly reduce the number actionable security events.

“We partnered with Sourcefire because we wanted a security partner and innovator we could turn to next week, next year or five years from now,” said John Lewis, IT Assurance Manager at NTelos. “We look for partners that can meet the scalability and management needs of our business. We have found all of this with Sourcefire, and their next-generation strategy reinforces our decision.”
