May 19, 2009 (Wilmington, MA) – Astaro Corporation (http://www.astaro.com) a leading Unified Threat Management provider, today announced that iPad users can securely connect to their business or home networks using the VPN functionality of the Astaro Security Gateway. This feature is included in the professional edition as well as in the Essential Firewall and Home Use edition that are both available for free.
The Astaro Security Gateway supports PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec VPN connections, allowing to establish secure tunnels with the iPad. Employees at companies using the Astaro Security Gateway can connect their iPad to their company’s network without having to purchase any new applications or networking equipment.
“The iPad demonstrates massive sales numbers and shows the strong consumer demand for this type of device, and businesses will have to face the issue of how employees can securely use it for business tasks while on the road.” said Gert Hansen, Vice President Product Management at Astaro. “Connecting to the network with the Astaro Security Gateway means employees can securely access network resources via their iPad. This feature is not reserved to Astaro customers as it is also included in the Essential Firewall edition that is free for business use.”
Additionally, private users can connect their iPad to their home networks using Home Use edition of the Astaro Security Gateway which is a full version of the Astaro Security Gateway available for free for all home users. So, iPad users are not forced to purchase additional products in order to get the most out of their initial investment in the iPad. Setting up the VPN connection is very easy, so no extensive technical knowledge is required.
Hansen continued: “The iPad has a lot of great personal uses such as watching movies and TV using apps like AirVideo. With the Astaro Security Gateway Home Use edition, iPad users can access multimedia content on their home network wherever they have connectivity to the Internet – and for example watch their favorite series while waiting for their train to arrive.”
Astaro allows anyone to set up a configured tunnel to an iPad or iPhone/iPod in seconds through its automatic configuration. This process simplifies VPN setup for the end user and also provides assurance that the tunnel has been set up securely and correctly.
