US CISOs Earn $273,033 Per Year
Security Current survey says salary increase is top incentive for 38% of CISOs.
The average salary of chief information security officers (CISOs) in the US is $273,033 (including bonuses), according to a new survey.
The study by Security Current surveyed 74 CISOs nationwide about their salaries and other issues.
"As CISOs we rely on our peer community when navigating security, risk and privacy issues. The more information we can glean from one another in a less ad hoc and more formal setting, the more effective we can be,” said Roota Almeida, CISO at Delta Dental, NJ.
The survey found that CISOs earned the highest in the west, with an average of $290,750, while those in the south had the lowest average salary at $199,975. Pay increase was the chief incentive for 38% of the CISOs, and the size of the organization mattered the least.
