PRESS RELEASE

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 6, 2014 — OpenDNS, a leading provider of cloud-delivered security, today introduced new capabilities that allow managed service providers (MSPs) to automate common tasks associated with deploying and managing security across their entire customer base. The features, collectively known as Centralized Settings, introduce multiple new controls that enable MSPs to improve their operational efficiency and profitability. Applying and managing security policy settings across dozens or even hundreds of customers are critical tasks for MSPs. These tasks can now be performed in seconds, not minutes or hours, regardless of customer size.

These new features make it easy for MSPs to create branded block pages, customized security settings and even web filtering bundles right in the Umbrella MSP console. Subsequent changes to these standard policies, such as blocking a content category or changing block page messaging, can be automatically applied to all customers using the same setting. Furthermore, OpenDNS offers an intuitive interface and user experience that engineers and operators can learn in minutes, eliminating the need for employees to attend multi-day configuration management classes or expensive certifications.

“OpenDNS helped us eliminate the pain of ransomware,” said Paul Rehovsky, IT Services Manager of Loffler Companies. “As a managed service provider, we are always looking for ways to better protect our clients' networks and reduce service tickets. Antivirus and anti-malware solutions don't provide sufficient protection anymore. Advanced security solutions are a must, but they have to scale and be designed for easy management in an MSP environment. In the first month of service, we were able to fully deploy 2,500 endpoints at over 60 customers with consistent settings customized to our standards. Centralized Settings allows us to deliver standardized, repeatable solutions faster, and still allows for a tailored customer experience if needed.”

OpenDNS Centralized Settings Update

The OpenDNS Centralized Settings features empower MSPs to:

  • Efficiently deploy and manage OpenDNS’s predictive security in a multi-tenant dashboard

  • Create custom-tailored standards, such as vertical or service class specific policies, and apply them to many customers

  • Apply policy changes across multiple customers, streamlining policy management and eliminating repetitive tasks

  • Define a default policy for all new customers, making on-boarding fast and efficient

  • View policy across all customers in a single pane of glass and fix any inconsistencies in seconds

OpenDNS will showcase Centralized Settings and other enhancements to the MSP dashboard at this year’s IT Nation conference, November 12 through 14 at the Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Fla. MSPs can stop by booth #214 to see OpenDNS’s award-winning technology in action.

“Security appliance lock-in with multiple vendors makes it extremely challenging for MSPs to have consistent malware prevention across all of their customers,” said Dima Kumets, Senior Product Manager for MSPs at OpenDNS. “This lack of consistency creates security gaps and leads to reactive ‘firefighting’ to clean up infections. OpenDNS solves this problem in the latest Umbrella for MSPs release by providing streamlined management tools that not only make for a more compelling service offering, but also enable MSPs to fully deploy a consistent, standardized layer of advanced security within minutes of signing a customer.”
