PRESS RELEASE
WALTHAM, MASS., and SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - December 8, 2008 - Liquid Machines, Inc., the leader in Enterprise Rights Management (ERM) solutions and McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE), today announced a partnership to integrate their solutions that prevent the loss of corporate intellectual property and industry or regulated data. The integrated solution enables customers, using McAfee DLP Discover, to easily locate data regardless of where it is stored and then to persistently protect electronic information with Liquid Machines. The information is then enforced with McAfee DLP Prevent to ensure transmitted information is protected according to policy.
Customers use Liquid Machines to secure and control their most critical information, including intellectual property, executive and board communications, customer data and human resources information, while enabling secure collaboration and strict adherence to regulatory compliance. The solution supports most current applications, operating systems and computing architectures including Microsoft Office System, Microsoft Windows Vista and Intel-based 64-bit computers. Liquid Machines is built on Microsoft Active Directory Rights Management Services (RMS) in Windows Server which helps safeguard against unauthorized use of digital information and documents - online and offline, inside or outside of the firewall.
"Customers of data loss prevention (DLP) solutions are looking for tight integration with encryption and persistent protection technologies such as Liquid Machines - this is the last mile of layered security," said Ed Gaudet, senior vice president of corporate development and marketing. "McAfee and Liquid Machines are among the first vendors to recognize the importance of persistent protection and the power of a combined solution for enterprise customers."
"Our integration with Liquid Machines solves a challenge our mutual customers face - locating the right information to protect and automatically applying persistent security and control, protecting it from unauthorized access and use," said Faizel Lakhani, Vice President Data Loss Prevention. "McAfee's differentiated approach to data protection and advanced innovative learning delivers a next-generation data protection solution that is steps ahead of its competition."
The McAfee DLP solution helps an organization protect all the information assets on its network without requiring upfront knowledge of what needs to be protected, regardless of how that information is stored, secured or communicated. The integration with Liquid Machines provides an automated data protection workflow in which McAfee DLP, with its unique technology that learns and adapts to automate the ongoing protection of data, will locate sensitive information, and based on usage rules, automatically apply rights-management protection.
"The McAfee/Liquid Machines partnership has the potential to enable new business processes that have otherwise been dormant or inefficient because of the risk of data loss," said Christine Kincaid, global security architecture strategist at a major financial bank. "The combined solution supports people doing their jobs without putting the company at risk. We have been working with both companies and look forward to evaluating the integrated solution."
In the June 18, 2008 Magic Quadrant for Content Monitoring and Filtering and Data Loss Prevention, Gartner analysts Eric Ouellet and Paul Proctor predicted the integration of data loss prevention and rights management technologies: "Traditional access control technologies only provide the ability to restrict access to sensitive information - they do not offer a layer of control once access has been provided. DLP, however, can restrict the use, as determined by policy, of sensitive information after access has been granted. These technologies use content inspection and will, in the near future, offer full integration with enterprise digital rights management (EDRM) tools, along with host-based encryption and other control technologies for enforcing policy."[i]
