Honolulu, HI - May XX, 2013 - The Shakacon crew is gearing up for its annual world class conference on information technology security in Honolulu, Hawaii, June 25-28, and anticipates this to be the biggest Shakacon ever.

The focus of this year's Shakacon V, marking five years, will be on risk management, Windows security, mobile security and malware. Shakacon offers local, national and international participants a social, laid-back, sun-soaked learning environment designed to present a holistic approach to security, with the opportunity to network with peers, fellow enthusiasts and some of the top security minds in the industry.

"What we're really trying to do with Shakacon is expose people to cutting edge research in the information security field as well as to demystify areas related to information security that people may see as mystical, cryptic or hard to do," said Jason Martin, president of Secure DNA and one of the conference's founders. "We started this conference to create an environment where global leaders in information security could share their research in a less commercialized atmosphere allowing our attendees to more closely interact with these experts when compared to other large security conferences."

The audience will be a broad mix of professional, academic and enthusiast, with skill levels varying from "n00b" to "ninja." Shakacon welcomes both technical and nontechnical submissions on all aspects of security. The key criteria are practicality and timeliness. Shakacon wants to provide attendees with up-to-date information they can take away and immediately gain benefit from, along with new research and tools.

The first two days will be training sessions, where presenters from all over the world will provide training in various areas of information security from mobile security and web application security to advanced security assessment methodologies. Sixteen speakers will be spread across the final two days. Sessions will include: best practices, case studies, research projects, etc., covering all different aspects of the information security landscape.

Shakacon V will feature many high-profile speakers from recognized global brands. They include:

* Walmart Vice President of Global IT and eCommerce Audit Robert Goldberg, who leads the retail giant's global effort to identify and evaluate risks and controls within the company

* Robert McPherson, a data scientist for a Fortune 100 financial services company

* Rahul Kashyap, chief security architect and head of security research at Bromium, formerly a research leader at McAfee Labs

* Bing Privacy Manager Jason Shirk, who worked at Lucent Technologies and Microsoft with social media privacy, fuzzing and VoIP

Gary Kahn, vice president and information security officer for Territorial Savings Bank, said in a recent Pacific Business News article that the knowledge he's gained from attending Shakacon over the years is important for his job, as it helps the bank comply with a number of laws and regulations, as well as protecting customer information.

"We learn and understand the hacker technology so we can build a strong security defense to help prevent future threats," Kahn said. "You can put money in a vault, but who owns that money? That's the information we need to protect."
