Lincoln, R.I. – Feb. 15, 2012 – Lighthouse Security Group today announced the next-generation Lighthouse Gateway™, a breakthrough software-as-a-service (SaaS) identity and access management (IAM) platform. Lighthouse Gateway combines innovative automation, governance and multi-tenancy capabilities, built on top of a proven IAM foundation, to provide the first solution that enables enterprises to overcome the cost, complexity and deployment problems that have plagued the IAM industry for years. Also today, Lighthouse Security Group announced expanded operations to support the launch of the next-generation Lighthouse Gateway. See related announcement (Lighthouse Security Group Expands Operations to Support its Proven Cloud Alternative to Traditional Identity and Access Management Systems).
Lighthouse Gateway is based on the IAM platform its engineers designed and deployed for the U.S. Air Force, and the company already has successful deployments at mid-sized organizations such as VantisLife Insurance Company, as well as Fortune 500 enterprises like Molson Coors Brewing Company.
Gateway customers benefit from reduced total cost of ownership, typically saving 30-60 percent over the first three years of operation; rapid ROI, as the Gateway is up and running 25-75 percent faster than on-premise IAM infrastructure; and ease-of-management, allowing IT managers to focus on core business functions rather than managing complex on-premise infrastructure.
“Rather than devoting our resources to reinventing core IAM functionality for a 1.0-quality product – as other cloud-based IAM vendors have done – Lighthouse has leveraged IBM’s rock-solid, best-of-breed IAM engine so that we could focus on the things end-user organizations really care about – breakthrough usability, automation and management-consolidation features,” said Eric Maass, CTO, Lighthouse Security Group. “By doing so, we are able to provide a cloud solution that deploys quickly, is easy to manage, delivers military-grade security and compliance capabilities, and has the stability and feature set of a mature, time-tested product. We have proven this through our initial customer deployments, and we are now making Lighthouse Gateway available to the broader market.”
New Features Added to Turnkey IAM Platform
The Lighthouse Gateway platform includes a full suite of identity management, Web access management and federated IAM capabilities that help customers protect sensitive information, manage user access rights and entitlements, and adhere to stringent compliance requirements. The next-generation Lighthouse Gateway also includes enhanced user self-service, Federated Single Sign-On (FSSO) and identity and access intelligence features – a culmination of years of research and development to identify and meet customer needs. Details of these features include:
User Self-Service – Understanding that user self-service tools are as important to identity lifecycle management as role management, provisioning and certification processes, Lighthouse Security Group incorporated built-in self-service applications, such as password reset, access request and self-registration, into the Gateway. Using these tools, customers can select the applications that are most relevant and install them in a matter of minutes using simple point-and-click technology.
Federated Single Sign-On – Lighthouse Gateway’s new “Quick Connect” technology includes a variety of pre-built profiles for popular SaaS applications, such as Salesforce.com, Concur and SuccessFactors, allowing IT administrators to federate to them within minutes and without having to build or deploy on-premise infrastructure. This capability not only saves time, cost and overhead, but it also improves the end-user experience by enabling seamless and secure login to third-party applications without the use of IDs and passwords.
Identity & Access Intelligence – The Gateway now includes new controls that enable IT and security administrators to create customized reports that meet compliance and auditory requirements while translating user access data into information that business managers and C-level executives can understand and use to mitigate risk.
“IAM is a process by which accountability, transparency and control of access to critical IT-based resources is done. When it comes to transparency, identity and access intelligence is the key ingredient not only for IT, but also for the business itself,” said Earl Perkins, research vice president at Gartner, Inc. “Business managers can use this intelligence to know who has access to what and who gave that access, and also to identify areas of concern when it comes to compliance and take remediation steps as a result.”
“The problem with the IAM sector has never been product functionality. It’s been deployability and manageability,” commented Maass. “Lighthouse Gateway solves those problems with its innovative use of the cloud as a deployment and management platform for proven IBM IAM functionality. Based on the success of our early deployments, we’re well on our way to resurrecting the image of the IAM sector.”
