TACOMA, Wash. – August 16, 2011 – IID (Internet Identity'), a provider of technology and services that help organizations secure their Internet presence, today announced that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has appointed IID President and CTO Rod Rasmussen to its Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC). Established in 2009, the Federal Advisory Committee provides recommendations to the FCC regarding best practices and actions it can take to ensure the security, reliability and interoperability of communications systems.
Appointees to the council span the public and private sector. They include representatives from: Amazon.com, AT&T, CBS Broadcasting Inc., CenturyLink, Cox Communications, DIRECTV, PayPal, Sprint Nextel Corp., T-Mobile USA, The SANS Institute, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Transportation, Verizon Communications and more.
“With the rise of e-crime and theft of personal information and intellectual property in recent months, there is a concern that the public and businesses could lose faith in our communications systems. I will be leveraging my background combating e-crime and securing the Internet’s infrastructure to bring a practical perspective to inform policymakers on how to address these issues,” said IID President and CTO, Rod Rasmussen. “I am honored to be appointed to this position and look forward to contributing to the effort to help make our nation's communications systems more secure and trusted; particularly in the Internet’s infrastructure — the domain name system and routing — where we foresee problems increasing.”
IID has addressed the need for an emergency alert system for the Internet’s domain name system in the past. You can read more on this subject by going to http://www.internetidentity.com/images/stories/docs/dns_emergency_alert_system.pdf.
