PRESS RELEASE
PASADENA, Calif. – Guidance Software, the makers of EnCase, the gold standard in forensic security, today announced the launch of its Forensic Artifact Research Program. The program was created as a forum for digital forensic security researchers to share information and be recognized for the critical work they do to investigate cybercrime and stop cyber threats.
“Digital forensic researchers work on a daily basis to uncover evidence and new methodologies to help defend against crime and cyberattacks,” said Michael Harris, chief marketing officer at Guidance. “This is an opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on how forensic techniques are used, not only to investigate cybercrime, but to improve the cybersecurity tools that help keep our clients and their customers more secure.”
The program is looking for previously unpublished forensic artifacts – residual forensic evidence left behind when users or applications interact with the operating system. The goal is to identify new opportunities to help investigators discover intrusions, intellectual property theft, and common cyber-crimes. All submissions must include a detailed response that includes the type of information stored and how it can be reproduced.
A panel of Guidance experts and third-party forensic investigators will evaluate submissions based on practicality for forensic investigations, newsworthiness, and overall business impact.
Prizes include:
One grand prize of $5,000,
Five second-place prizes offering $1,000 each,
And, five third-place prizes awarding $500 each.
The deadline for entries is August 31, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. PST. Prizes will be awarded by Sept. 30, 2017. To review more details and submit research, please visit the program’s homepage.
