PRESS RELEASE
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RSA Conference - STOP OS 7.3.1, the general purpose operating system used in a wide variety of cyber security applications, has achieved the internationally recognized Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 4+ security certification. EAL 4+ is the highest rating recognized by international mutual agreements. Unlike other general purpose operating systems, STOP OS is architected from the start with security as its core focus. STOP OS also maintains performance parity with other commercially available operating systems.
STOP OS is trusted by the Department of Defense (DoD), the Intelligence Community, programs such as Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), and third-party software developers seeking greater security for their solutions. Unique among operating systems, STOP OS is certified to run on all x86-based hardware, real or virtualized. STOP OS has also received Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 validation, a standard for encryption security required by government, banking, healthcare, and critical infrastructure customers.
Francis Cianfrocca, CEO of Bayshore Networks, a STOP OS technology partner, said: “Customers trust STOP OS as a strong platform for SingleKey™, our Layer 7 Information Assurance Firewall. STOP OS’s entire unique kernel, and all of its key security software, is covered in the certification — unlike other evaluated operating systems. Furthermore, its standard development tools and application programming interface [API] made porting our technology from Linux simple and low-cost.”
STOP OS was developed exclusively as a U.S. product and its source code is proprietary. This is a distinct security advantage over competing products that have their code available online. STOP OS enables administrators to define user privileges with high granularity through both Multilevel Security (MLS) and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) policies. It is fully equipped with tamper resistant features, flexible auditing policies that allow the collection of necessary information, advanced stack smashing protection to mitigate buffer overflow attacks, native full-disk encryption, and real-time security configuration updates.
“STOP OS was built specifically with security and ruggedness as fundamental features,” said Leigh Palmer, vice president of BAE Systems Advanced Programs. “We are confident our approach offers a far superior product than other operating systems that have security and toughness as an after-thought.”
STOP OS may be found on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Module Validation List and the Common Criteria certification scheme’s Certified Products List at http://www.commoncriteriaportal.org/files/epfiles/383-4-176%20CR%20v1.0e.pdf
