Taiyo Yuden deploys two-factor authentication to secure remote VPN access
LONDON and OTTAWA -- CRYPTOCard (www.cryptocard.com), the leading authentication technology developer for heterogeneous environments, is proud to announce that Taiyo Yuden (USA), world leader in materials and electronics technology, has implemented CRYPTOCard's two-factor authentication to secure remote access to its Cisco VPN. Taiyo Yuden's 95 remote users and outside consultants can now gain simple "One-PIN-and-You're-In" secure VPN access from Windows XP Professional laptops via CRYPTOCard's ST-1 software token. Staff that require access from multiple computers utilize CRYPTOCard's KT-1 hardware token that attaches to a keychain.
"We were looking to deploy a remote access VPN to provide salespeople, consultants, and workers working from home with secure network access, and realized that this meant implementing some kind of two-factor authentication," said Jimmie Irizarry Jr., Communication Engineer, Taiyo Yuden (USA). "We looked at RSA's SecurID, but it was very expensive," Irizarry continued. "CRYPTOCard's solution proved far less complicated - and the price was just perfect for us."
Taiyo Yuden was able to simplify its system by removing the additional Cisco
Access Control Server layer. In fact, CRYPTO-Shield's seamless integration with Taiyo Yuden's security applications, including its Cisco VPN and Cisco ASA 5520 firewall has made it simple to strengthen VPN security with two-factor authentication.
"In recent years, the sophistication of the increasing number of hackers who
infiltrate company networks has far outstripped any advances in system security," said Jason Hart, CEO, CRYPTOCard Europe. "As a former ethical hacker I can tell you that it is increasingly simple for unauthorized users to get hold of a user's credentials, and this means that a VPN, or any other
security solution that relies on static passwords to authenticate users, is extremely vulnerable," Hart continued. "CRYPTOCard is pleased that Taiyo Yuden has selected CRYPTOCard's two-factor authentication as a simple and cost-effective method of addressing this significant security weakness."
