Russian hackers believed to be sponsored by the Russian government, have compromised the networks of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), particularly targeting "opposition research" information on GOP candidate Donald Trump, reports the Washington Post.

According to security firm CrowdStrike, which is investigating the attack, two separate hacking groups -- dubbed Cozy Bear and Fancy Bear by CrowdStrike -- are responsible. DNC first learned of the intrusion in April, but researchers say that attackers had gained access last summer.
