PALO ALTO, Calif. -- PortAuthority Technologies, Inc.,™ the leader in Information Leak Prevention (ILP), and Safend, an international leader in endpoint security, today announced a partnership to expand content-aware, policy-based data protection beyond the gateway to desktops and endpoints. The companies also announced Safend’s inclusion in the growing PortAuthority DATASEC Alliance™, which fosters interoperability with complementary technologies to jointly deliver the most comprehensive data protection and compliance solutions.

Despite heightened awareness, serious data breaches continue to occur due to poor endpoint control, resulting in the loss of private customer data and other confidential information. Whether unintentional, intentional or malicious in nature, the ramifications of these incidents are proving significant. Until today, endpoint security solutions lacked the functionality to fully identify sensitive content resting on desktops and laptops. Current solutions also lack the capability to protect confidential data from unauthorized distribution. This partnership joins the leading content-aware, policy-based data leak protection with innovative endpoint security technology for the industry’s most comprehensive endpoint ILP solution.

“Today’s endpoint security products provide limited protection against confidential data leakage because they are not content aware, and can be bypassed by simple maneuvers, such as changing the file name or file type,” said Brian Burke, research manager of security products at IDC. “The joint solution brought to the market today by PortAuthority and Safend serves a critical need for organizations that was previously unmet. Now, organizations can protect their information on endpoints from unauthorized distribution or duplication based on actual file contents according to their predefined policies.”
