Hacker Of Celeb Emails Goes To Jail For Five Years
Bahamian Alonzo Knowles was sentenced for illegal access of 130 celebrity email accounts and selling their personal information.
Alonzo Knowles of the Bahamas has been given a five-year jail sentence by a US court for hacking celebrities’ email accounts and stealing their highly private information in order to sell them, Reuters reports. Knowles was arrested in December 2015 after he tried to sell the stolen data to an undercover US Homeland Security agent.
Prosecutors said Knowles was found in possession of contact details of 130 celebrities. He stole unreleased film/TV scripts, music, financial documents, and nude pictures and videos of his victims, including Naturi Naughton of Starz network series “Power.” The stolen scripts included the upcoming biopic of Tupac Shakur and two belonging to Twenty-First Century Fox Inc.
"You have some obvious facility for computers," said Judge Paul Engelmayer at the time of sentencing, adding "But you chose to use your gifts for dark and lawless ends."
