December 12, 2016

2016: the year of the "400-pound" hacker hacking from his bed, hospitals suffering from a ransomware epidemic, and Russia's cyber espionage machine going viral as a political hacking power in the US Presidential election.
There also were some notable hacks this year by the good guys, though, as white-hat researchers hacked smart lighting systems, locked-down Macs and Windows machines, speeding cars - and even built machines to do their own hacking and patching.
Join me on the next episode of Dark Reading Radio, "The Coolest Hacks Of 2016," this Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 1pm ET/10 am Pacific, when I'll have guests Samy Kamkar, whose PoisonTap tool made the list, and Levi Gundert, vice president of threat intelligence at Recorded Future. We'll riff off my annual coolest hacks feature piece and examine some the innovative and creative research that made the headlines this year.
Kamkar, Gundert, and I will be on the air the first half of the hour, and in the final 30 minutes will hold a live online chat on the Dark Reading site where listeners can ask questions of Kamkar and Gundert, or call out some of their own picks for the coolest hacks of the year. See you on the radio.
