2016: the year of the "400-pound" hacker hacking from his bed, hospitals suffering from a ransomware epidemic, and Russia's cyber espionage machine going viral as a political hacking power in the US Presidential election.

There also were some notable hacks this year by the good guys, though, as white-hat researchers hacked smart lighting systems, locked-down Macs and Windows machines, speeding cars - and even built machines to do their own hacking and patching.
