A team from the Bangladesh central bank is in Manila to take back $15 million that is part of the $81 million stolen in the wake of a major cyberattack in February where hackersĀ used fake SWIFT messages to transfer pilfered funds, Reuters reports.
Casino boss Kim Wong, who owns Eastern Hawai Leisure Company, had returned $4.63 million and 488.28 million pesos to the authorities but denied any involvement in the cyber heist, saying he had taken the money from two Chinese high-rollers.
A Philippine court ordered that the recovered money be returned to Bangladesh central bank.
"The good thing is now that the process on this $15 million is more or less completed, we will go for the rest," said Bangladesh diplomat John Gomes.
