Websense Unveils Mobile DLP
Mobile DLP will control the availability of sensitive data over mobile email
February 16, 2011
PRESS RELEASE
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - February 15, 2011) - RSA CONFERENCE - BOOTH #1129 (NASDAQ: WBSN) With the proliferation of smartphones and tablets in the enterprise, organizations are under more pressure to keep their content secure from malicious and inadvertent data leaks. As we enter 2011, companies are looking to even further mobilize their business and use smartphones and tablets as primary work and communication tools. The increased usage of personal devices connecting to the corporate network, social Web, and SaaS applications opens up new channels for data loss, and an inherent need for IT to control how employees and devices access sensitive data.
The all new Websense' Mobile DLP™ technology, part of the Websense TRITON™ architecture, will control the availability of sensitive data over mobile email -- protecting data from loss and theft. The new Mobile DLP capability uses Websense DLP technology to help prevent the loss of confidential data on iPads, iPhones, Android, and other mobile devices. It identifies corporate mail communications to mobile devices and, with no cumbersome endpoint client or third-party software required on the device, safely quarantines confidential emails on the Exchange Server for access only on authorized machines along with reporting and remediation capabilities. Email that is not confidential will still be available to the mobile user.
"Today's enterprise has a myriad of devices connecting to and accessing its enterprise email system," said Devin Redmond, vice president of business development, product management and marketing, Websense. "Employees are increasingly pulling data, often confidential, from within the email infrastructure and indiscriminately using it on personal and corporate mobile devices. Until now, security professionals have lacked the controls to enable safe access to corporate email from mobile devices. With Websense Mobile DLP, IT security will be able to protect sensitive data over corporate email, reduce costs, and drive mobile productivity."
Websense is the only security vendor that recognizes that in an age of borderless organizations, security has to focus on protecting content. And that means wherever it resides, on-premises and on remote devices. With this new capability, the Websense TRITON solution enables content security controls to prevent sensitive data loss via mobile devices, whether connected through cellular carriers or WiFi.
"The explosive growth of smartphones and tablets along with the complication of the consumerization of IT -- employees using personal mobiles for business purposes -- are challenges for the enterprise. How do you safely enable these devices within the enterprise without putting confidential data at risk?" said Chris Christiansen, program vice president for IDC's Security Products and Services. "These smart wireless devices are legitimate and powerful business tools but they can be data loss liabilities. Protection should be about managing the content -- Web, email, data, social networking, not just the device. The Websense TRITON architecture will help enterprises empower their users while providing proper and powerful mobile DLP capabilities."
The TRITON architecture sets the standard for unified content security, including Web, email, and DLP. A unified system, when extended to mobile devices, provides organizations with maximum flexibility, truly integrated Web, email, and data security policies and seamless administration.
"By leveraging the revolutionary power of the TRITON family of products, we will extend that same visibility, control, threat protection, and data loss prevention over the mobile device, a key enabler to today's businesses," concluded Redmond.
