The latest version of Trend Micro's data loss protection (DLP) package, LeakProof 5.0, comes in two flavors: one for monitoring users and confidential data, the other covering those elements, but also providing tools for protecting intellectual property as well as confidential information. The newest iteration of LeakProof, 5.0, offers, in its Standard version, leak-monitoring protection and filters aimed at keeping an eye on both business data and the users who are accessing it (or trying to).The Standard editioon

New to this edition are filters for P2P, Skype, Windows File Share, ActiveSync and network printers.

The Advanced edition includes tools for adding identifying material (what Trend Micro calls Data DNA fingerprinting) to proprietary, content and intellectual property such as original code, pharmaceutical formulas, and so on.

Each version of LeakProof is worth a look, depending on the nature of your business and the data you deal with:

If you're not in the intellectual property business, but do have confidential information such as customer and transaction records, the Standard edition is the one you should take a look at; at just under $48 per seat, it's a competitive contender in the DLP marketplace.

If you're dealing with intellectual property, though, take a look at Advanced LeakProof; priced at just over $68 per seat it, too, is competitive with other products.

Both versions are expected to ship later this month.
