PRESS RELEASE
COLUMBIA, Md., October 26, 2009 - Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq:FIRE), a leader in intelligent Cybersecurity solutions, today announced the launch of its new Vulnerability Research Team (VRT) Vulnerability Report video series, Active Malware Report, and iPhone application. These new resources are designed to provide IT security professionals with the tools and intelligence necessary to stay ahead of emerging threats.
Delivered in video format following each month's Microsoft Tuesday disclosures, the Sourcefire VRT Vulnerability Report provides viewers with an overview of each of the month's leading risks, including the threat level and potential impact to enterprises. This new monthly video series is hosted by Matt Watchinski, leading Cybersecurity expert and leader of the Sourcefire VRT. It provides viewers with increased vulnerability insights, unavailable from printed materials, so they can further improve their protection efforts. Currently, the video is available for viewing on Sourcefire's VRT YouTube Channel and Snort.org Web site, and it can also be downloaded from iTunes in the form of a video podcast.
The VRT has also launched the new Active Malware Report to provide the security community with increased insights into real-time security threats,. This free report delivers a daily overview of top malware threats worldwide, based on attacks that are detected and blocked by ClamAV, one of the most commonly used open source anti-virus and anti-malware products in the world. This report gathers and summarizes attack data from nearly 1,000 sites around the world, with new sites added daily. It enables enterprises to evaluate their current exposure to the top threats and tailor protection efforts in real time. The Active Malware Report is currently available via the ClamAV.net Web site.
In addition to the VRT's monthly Vulnerability Reports and daily Active Malware Reports, a new free Sourcefire VRT iPhone application is available now from Apple's App Store. This new app features three real-time Sourcefire news feeds, including VRT Updates, VRT Top 10 Malware, and Snort News. Designed to support the needs of today's mobile workforce, the iPhone application provides users with the information needed to identify and respond to the most critical Cybersecurity threats in real time.
"As criminals continue to share techniques and malware, the security community must increase its collaboration efforts to effectively defend against these attackers," said Matt Watchinski, Senior Director of the Sourcefire Vulnerability Research Team. "The VRT is dedicated to sharing our knowledge and providing actionable insights that can help the entire security community protect itself from the latest threats. With the new VRT Vulnerability Reports, Active Malware Reports, and iPhone application, we are allowing security professionals to access this valuable information from anywhere at anytime."
