Richardson, TX, May 18, 2010 — Sipera Systems, the leader in real-time Unified Communications (UC) enablement and security, announced today it has closed a funding round of $10 million. The round was led by S3 Ventures, and includes participation by prior investors Austin Ventures, Duchossois Technology Partners (DTEC), Sequoia Capital, and STAR Ventures.

The funding brings Sipera’s total to $48 million, and will help the company advance its smartphone UC security solutions and UC-Sec enterprise UC security product family. In addition, Sipera will use the funding to increase sales efforts in Asia, Europe and South America, and to support an expanded reseller partner program. The funding will also enable Sipera to expand its relationships with the next-generation communications eco-system, including establishing new OEMs with leading UC vendors and supporting bundled VoIP and UC solutions from system integrators and communications service providers. Sipera also is nearing completion of the Common Criteria Certification of its solution, which will further confirm its leadership as the UC security solution of choice for governments and security-conscious enterprises worldwide.

“Sipera is at the forefront of Unified Communications security solutions, including most recently protecting smartphones to enable safe, enterprise-class VoIP and UC for employees on the go. Given the explosive enterprise adoption of smartphones and UC applications including VoIP, IM and video, the timing is ideal for Sipera to capitalize on its leadership in comprehensive UC security,” said Brian R. Smith, Managing Director of S3 Ventures. “By building on its existing customer base, channel sales program, global presence, and products and services, Sipera is well-positioned to increase sales and continue to secure critical business communications for enterprises around the globe.”

“Enterprise adoption of UC is surging, and the need to secure these applications and ensure compliance with privacy and monitoring regulations is mission critical. Sipera has seen a major spike in demand for its UC security solutions, including its smartphone security offering that enables an enterprise to securely manage VoIP and UC on an employee’s smartphone in any location,” said Sipera President and CEO John Lochow. “This new investment ensures that we can scale to meet this global demand, support our channel partners, increase our international presence, and continue to provide the highest levels of service to enterprise customers.”
