The Sectra Edge 'smartphone' Release 2.0 has been certified by the National Security Agency (NSA) and can now be implemented onto existing Sectra Edge devices. Release 2.0 improves the overall performance and functionality of the Sectra Edge including:
HAIPE' pre-placed key and multicast capability for networked, tactical communications
Operation as a wireless secure modem to move information between two computers
Mode switching from secure voice to data; data to voice or between security levels without reinitiating the call
Internet Explorer' version 6; full featured internet browsing
IPv6 compliant
Background:
Similar in form and function to a commercial cell phone/personal digital assistant (PDA), the Sectra Edge is capable of synchronizing information with a user's computer, enabling access to calendar, address book, calculator, notepad and other PDA capabilities. The smartphone operates on existing Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) commercial cellular networks including AT&T, Sprint', T-Mobile' and Verizon'.
Developed under the NSA Secure Mobile Environment/Portable Electronic Device (SME PED) program, the Sectra Edge smartphone is compliant with the Secure Communication Interoperability Protocol (SCIP), enabling secure interoperability with SCIP devices including the Secure Telephone Equipment (STE) and existing Sectra phones and terminals. The smartphone is also compliant with the High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptor Interoperability Specification (HAIPE' IS) for secure interoperability with in-line encryption devices, including TACLANE' encryptors, that secure information on the U.S. Government's Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet).
