Security vendor McAfee aims to take on concerns about cloud security where the concerns flourish and where the customers are -- among the SaaS providers in the cloud. The goal is not only to up security levels, but also establish a trusted brand.Targeting customer security concerns about shifting to Software as a Service (SaaS), security vendor McAfee's cloud security certification service aims to build trust while building a business brand.
The service includes ongoing scans and vulnerability audits, which must be passed in order to receive the certification that accompanies the brand.
That brand is the McAfee Secure trustmark, which the company asserts can "increase online sales by 12%" just by its presence on a site. (Small print on the McAfee site: "Your results may vary.")
There may be some big online guns signing on, with Amazon Web Services and SuccessFactors rumored to be among the early participants.
Pricing is expected to start at under $5,000 a month, tiered to reflect the number of IP addresses the service covers.
