BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Klocwork announced today that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OS™. As a Platinum Partner, Klocwork has extended its source code analysis product suite to support the Symbian ecosystem. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the market-leading open operating system for advanced data-enabled mobile phones known as smartphones, to the world’s leading handset manufacturers.

"This partnership reflects our commitment to deliver software security and quality assurance solutions to the mobile device market," said Gwyn Fisher, Klocwork’s chief technology officer. "By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, we can offer our leading source code analysis to developers making Klocwork a standard part of their development process.”

Klocwork provides highly scalable and accurate source code analysis tools for developers so they can easily identify critical software security and quality defects, track them throughout their software development process and prevent them from reoccurring. Available for immediate customer trials, Klocwork’s solution for Symbian OS provides built-in awareness of its unique programming interfaces along with a family of defect checkers. This robust, new defect rule set will automatically identify the following critical issues for Symbian developers:

  • Memory leaks through the identification of incorrect use of the Symbian OS clean up stack and memory management routines;

  • Improper memory deletion which can lead to system panics or segmentation faults, and;

  • A variety of maintainability issues such as member variable naming conventions.

“Software security and quality are fundamental requirements for today’s smartphones,” said Mike Whittingham, vice president ecosystem relations, Symbian. “We are pleased to welcome a recognized leader in source code analysis like Klocwork into the Symbian Platinum Program bringing valuable technology to our thriving ecosystem.”
