HELSINKI, Finland " November 17, 2009 " Instead of remembering to erase all traces of every sensitive file you've been working on " BCWipe's Transparent Wiping securely wipes deleted files on the fly. Jetico, a developer of military-standard data deletion software and file encryption products, today announced their release of BCWipe version 4.0, featuring revolutionary Transparent Wiping. When Transparent Wiping is activated on your computer, BCWipe will automatically erase all contents of any deleted file or temporary file beyond recovery.

Security expert Bruce Schneier claims, "I'm really looking forward to BCWipe's Transparent Wiping feature. Previously 'wipe free space' was a slow operation that I had to remember to run manually. With Transparent Wiping running in the background, I will always be working in a totally clean environment."

Schneier adds, "I tend to run wiping when I'm crossing an international border, because I don't want stray erased files when a customs officer demands access. Now, by running BCWipe's Transparent Wiping, I won't have to worry anymore."

The primary advantage for users running Transparent Wiping is that it eliminates time-consuming processes to wipe free space, wipe temporary files or wipe old file versions. These tasks are typically necessary because while running an application " such as editing an Office document or browsing the Internet " it creates temporary files, cache objects or other special system files that may contain confidential information.

"When we analyzed the system and temporary files that Windows 'deletes' in the background " without wiping them of course " we were shocked at the amount of files found with recoverable information," says Panu Pietikainen, COO, Jetico. "You can't imagine how much from these 'deleted' backups appear on disks in plain form, even if the file itself is encrypted. With BCWipe Transparent Wiping activated, all these files are securely wiped automatically."

Transparent Wiping intercepts all 'delete' commands sent by the user or by the system and securely wipes the data files. And all temporary files created by Windows or by any application will be wiped when they are no longer needed. When a Word document is closed, the temporary copy of the file will immediately be wiped.

Transparent Wiping securely erases the following sensitive information on the fly:

* All files and folders deleted using normal commands * Temporary files created by Windows and applications * Temporary files created when working with data secured with encryption * Data stored in Windows Restore Point when the Restore Point is deleted * Data stored in Recycle Bin when Empty Recycle Bin is selected * Or only specific types of files, folders and applications by configuring include/exclude lists

BCWipe is a powerful, industrial strength data wiping tool which utilizes U.S. DoD 5220.22-M, DoE M 205.1-2 and German VSITR standards, as well as the Peter Gutmann and Bruce Schneier wiping schemes. BCWipe also allows users to create and use their own custom wiping schemes.

"Jetico's engineers are constantly developing new and exciting ways of making all of our lives easier with user-friendly security applications."
