Hackers and Humbugs
Spread some holiday cheer with your own Month of Bugs
5:05 PM -- HD Moore's Month of Browser Bugs (MOBB) was a really cool idea. The MOBB raised awareness of browser vulnerabilities and prompted some key vendor patches. Then came the Month of Kernel Bugs by researcher LMH, which put the spotlight on the oft-ignored kernel of the operating system, and most recently, the Week of Oracle Database Bugs, which had planned to highlight another vital, but often overlooked, platform with serious holes of its own. (This just in -- the Week of Oracle Database Bugs has now been cancelled, but that's a story for another time).
Still, I don't think Moore ever envisioned the Month of INSERT SOFTWARE HERE Bugs. Don't get me wrong -- these bug disclosure efforts are all crucial software vulnerability efforts that merit attention.
But with these copycats, it's almost becoming a cliché now, like the latest reality TV series. What's next? The 12 Bugs of Christmas?
"On the first day of Christmas, my hacker brought to me..."
So in the spirit of the holidays, help us write the next Month of INSERT SOFTWARE HERE Bugs, to the tune of the 12 Bugs of Christmas. Send your holiday contributions to our message board.
