Deloitte's "Think Before You Click" Campaign Wins DHS Award

Washington, D.C., Aug. 10, 2010 — Deloitte was recently selected by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano as the “Best Iconic and Overall Structure” award winner for the 2010 National Cybersecurity Awareness Challenge. Winners were honored at a White House event hosted by Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt and attended by Commerce Secretary Gary Locke.

Deloitte’s “Think Before You Click” campaign was selected from more than 80 proposals received by DHS for this inaugural competition, which called on public and private organizations to develop innovative approaches to increase awareness of the importance of cybersecurity and to create a plan to safeguard America’s cyber infrastructure from attacks.

As a winner, Deloitte will help inform the National Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign, which will engage public, private and government sectors to work together to guard against cyber threats and communicate strategies to better educate the American public on how to be safer online. The campaign will kick-off in October 2010 as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Deloitte’s winning campaign was created by a cross-functional team, led by the Center for Security & Privacy Solutions.

Commenting on the variety of resources involved in developing the winning response, Ted DeZabala, principal and national leader for security and privacy services for Deloitte & Touche LLP said, “Deloitte marshaled a multi-faceted team to create a highly integrated and creative messaging platform to answer the DHS call to communicate the cybersecurity imperative to the U.S. population.”

DeZabala, who was present when Security Napolitano initially announced the Cybersecurity Awareness Challenge, added, “Cybersecurity is a matter of national security and we all have a stake in it. This competition was a call to serve the greater good and to help our government in raising public awareness about one of our nation’s most pressing security threats.”

Amry Junaideen, principal, Deloitte & Touche LLP, and national security & privacy leader for the federal sector, accepted the award on behalf of Deloitte at the White House event.

“Changing the way people think about cybersecurity is imperative. The federal government can’t solve this problem without the help of every American who is using the Internet. We have to change the culture – which means being proactive about security in all settings,” said Junaideen. “I’m incredibly proud of the work that the Deloitte team has done to address this crucial challenge.”
