Deadline For Digital Forensics Challenge Coming Up

Linthicum, MD - Time is running out to submit solutions for the 2010 DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge for a chance at 11 different prizes against over 975 teams.

As one of the original three U.S. Cyber Challenges, the Cyber Security Challenge UK, and, the DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge is a public, online, and international Challenge held annually by the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3). The DC3 Challenge is an annual call to the digital forensics community to pioneer new investigative tools, techniques, and methodologies.

The 2010 DC3 Challenge encourages innovation from a broad range of individuals, teams, and institutions to provide technical solutions for computer forensic examiners in the lab as well as in the field. Approximately 20 different unique, single based challenges ranging from basic forensics to advanced tool development are being provided to all participants for this annual challenge.

Prizes from DC3 Challenge sponsors range from trips to the 2011 DoD Cyber Crime Conference, tours of cyber crime facilities and academies, and official award recognitions, grants, and training. Prizes are awarded based on the teams’ overall citizenship and affiliation as civilians, military, government, or level of academia. Sponsors include DC3, SANS, IMPACT, EC-Council, John Hopkins Carey Business School, Cyber Watch and the Cyber Security Challenge UK.

Working on your submissions? Teams that are playing are recommended to upload their solutions to the individual Challenges to the DC3 Challenge team before November 2nd, 2010. Each submission counts toward your final score to qualify teams for their prizes.

Submissions will be graded and winners announced on December 1st, 2010 by the DC3 Challenge team for each prize and the overall points winner on the 2010 DC3 Challenge website.

The DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge’s purpose is to promote and generate interest in digital forensics; establish relationships within the digital forensics community; address the major obstacles and dilemmas confronting digital forensics investigators and examiners; and develop new tools, techniques, and methodologies. It is hosted by the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center with sponsorships and partnerships from the Digital Forensics community.
