PRESS RELEASE
Concord, N.H. - Oct. 12, 2010 - Bradford Networks (http://www.bradfordnetworks.com), the best choice for network security in evolving IT environments, today unveiled a new version of its Network Sentry solution designed to help organizations of all sizes secure their networks through multiple deployment options, including on VMware.
Network Sentry is the first network security offering that automatically identifies and profiles all devices and all users on a network, providing complete visibility and control. Enhancements in the latest release of Network Sentry include: - Support for VMware deployment, giving customers the industry's most deployment options, including hardware appliance, VMware virtualized software environments and managed service through Bradford's extensive channel partner ecosystem. - Out-of-the-box integration with additional complementary, third-party technologies including Sourcefire and ArcSight; - A newly designed user interface that's not only easier to navigate, but also includes the ability to create custom views for different types of users, and new role-based dashboards; and - Directory-based scanning for endpoint compliance, which eliminates the need to deploy software agents to endpoint devices in cases where agents are not feasible.
Bryant University is one of several organizations that beta tested Network Sentry 5.0. "Bryant's deployments of VMware and Bradford's Network Sentry are crucial to managing our infrastructure costs and helping us secure a constantly evolving IT environment," said Jon Domen, IT Network Analyst at Bryant University. "Bradford's new ability to run in a virtualized environment fits perfectly into our strategy. The other new features in Network Sentry - like agentless scanning and the new host view - build nicely on Bradford's already-proven ability to flawlessly secure our networks."
Virtualized architecture creates new revenue, services opportunities for Bradford channel partners Channel partner reaction to Network Sentry's new virtualized architecture has been extremely positive. One is Atrion Networking Corporation, a leading provider of Information Technology and managed services. Mark Moretti, Sales Director at Atrion, said, "This new version of Network Sentry is great news for Atrion customers who have already invested in VMware - a segment that is growing significantly each quarter. It also enables us to enhance some of our own service offerings, such as vulnerability assessments, by providing them in a virtualized environment rather than with an on-site, physical appliance. That model reduces our costs, allows us to provide better value to our customers, and also enables us to add some new revenue-producing services. We're really excited about taking this out to our customer base."
"Consumerization of IT" drives need for new network security solutions Due to the consumerization of IT, enterprises are losing control over endpoints and devices, and diverse IT environments are an increasingly common occurrence. At the same time, organizations are facing more sophisticated security threats than ever before, due to increasing mobility of users, the heterogeneous nature of modern networks, and a proliferation of new devices and computing models, such as cloud computing. All of this combined has driven the need for network security solutions that can cover multiple types of devices and multiple brands of infrastructure components.
"10 years ago, network infrastructures were fairly homogenous. Not anymore-that is why network security tools that come with infrastructure buys are no longer able to cover all the bases," explained Frank Andrus, CTO of Bradford Networks. "Network Sentry has been proven to integrate with all the major infrastructure components - it's very easy to roll out Network Sentry in an existing environment, particularly in virtualized settings."
Existing features that make Network Sentry well suited for evolving IT environments include: - Its unique out-of-band architecture that allows Network Sentry Foundation servers - virtualized or appliance-based - to be placed anywhere in the network; - A modular platform that enables phased deployment, allowing solutions to be customized to meet specific business challenges today, with the ability to easily add functionality in the future; and - Extensive technology integration (examples include HP, Aruba, Meru, Ruckus, TippingPoint, Stonesoft, Lancope, TopLayer, NitroSecurity and now Sourcefire and ArcSight), enabling organizations to deploy Network Sentry seamlessly in multi-vendor network environments.
Bradford has long been recognized for its ability to secure diverse IT environments, including most recently in the July 2010 Gartner report, "Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control," in which Bradford is identified as a Visionary.
Pricing and Availability Network Sentry 5.0 is available in limited release now, and Network Sentry 5.1 (supporting VMware) will be generally available by mid-December 2010. Software upgrades are available to existing customers under maintenance at no charge. Network Sentry Foundation pricing starts at $8,995 on VMware or $10,495 on a hardware appliance from Bradford Networks. Bradford will demonstrate the new features of Network Sentry for the first time this week at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif. (Booth 807).
