Solution helps merchants automate PCI DSS compliance
November 22, 2008
PRESS RELEASE
Waltham, Mass., November 18, 2008 - Bit9, Inc., the pioneer and leader in Enterprise Application Whitelisting, and Tripwire, the leading provider of configuration assessment and file integrity monitoring, today announced a jointly-created new solution - PCI Control for Retailers - to serve as "one stop shopping" for retailers looking to secure their store systems and meet PCI DSS requirements.
Tripwire and Bit9 are offering the bundled PCI Control for Retailers security solution as the most comprehensive set of controls to help merchants achieve PCI DSS compliance faster and at lower cost. The combined PCI solution helps address 11 of the 12 PCI DSS requirements by combining Tripwire's file integrity monitoring, configuration assessment, and PCI compliance policies with Bit9's application whitelisting, application control and device control.
Retailers using the combined Bit9 and Tripwire PCI DSS solution will be able to achieve greater automation to maximize the value of IT investments, and gain total visibility across operating systems, devices, directory services, databases and applications. By controlling applications and stopping all unauthorized change, retailers gain better protection from malware and data breaches while freeing up disk space and computing power for real business transactions.
PCI Control for Retailers is available now through either vendor.
"Application whitelisting solutions address shortcomings in antivirus and other signature-based approaches that are reactive instead of proactive," said Gartner analyst Avivah Litan. "Retailers like Ritz Camera and 7-Eleven are using whitelisting to provide security and operational benefits by allowing only approved, authorized applications to run on their point-of-sale, kiosks and other retail machines."
Seven of the top 10 retailers, as ranked by Stores magazine, are Tripwire customers, including Home Depot and Sears. Bit9 retail customers include 7-Eleven, Marks and Spencer, Ritz Camera, Jungle Jim's International Market.
"At Bit9 we are focused on providing the best experience and security for our customers," said Doug Cahill, vice president of Corporate Development, Bit9. "By bringing Tripwire into our solution set, we are able to meet a greater set of our customers' needs - more easily and cost effectively."
"Tripwire knows the needs of retailers and understands the technical challenges of PCI across distributed environments," said Dwayne Melancon, vice president of Corporate and Business Development at Tripwire. "With a majority of the top 100 national retailers currently using our software for PCI compliance, we are continually refining our offerings to further meet the security needs of retailers."
