Astaro Promotes Cyber Security Awareness With New Campaign
Initiative provides information to help parents, children, and businesses stay safe online

PRESS RELEASE
October 3, 2011 (Wilmington, MA) – Astaro, a Sophos company and leading Unified Threat Management provider, today announced that the company is participating in a campaign to promote cyber security awareness. The campaign will take place in October to coincide with National Cyber Security Awareness Month and will include information for parents, students, schools, libraries, colleges and businesses, all available on a dedicated page on the Astaro website. In addition, Astaro is holding a video submission contest for students.
“With more than 50 percent of all devices connected to the internet, cyber security is a growing priority for parents, schools and businesses,” said Bob Darabant, vice president, Astaro Americas. “Becoming educated on the real threats that exist is as critical as implementing the security itself. Our campaign is bringing awareness to this important issue, and we hope businesses and individuals continue to think about potential risks whenever they use the Internet.”
To help promote cyber security awareness, Astaro has created a website dedicated to providing information regarding cyber security. The site offers tips for parents, students, educational institutions and businesses for staying safe online. Throughout October, the site will be updated with tips and resources that can be used to improve cyber security awareness and online behaviors.
In addition to the website, Astaro is hosting a video submission contest for students that will help illustrate the importance of Internet safety. Students can submit a one- to two-minute video answering the following questions on the Astaro Cyber Security Awareness Month website: Why is cyber security awareness important? What are you doing to stay safe online? At the end of the month, Astaro will select one winner from each age group. Winners will receive a new laptop.
“While our normal audience for promotional material is generally businesses,” Darabant added, “we feel it is important to involve children and teenagers in the educational process since they are more susceptible to the threats online. We hope the contest will get them thinking about their Internet behavior and open a dialog with their parents about important online issues such as cyber-bullying and online predators.”
