FTC Releases Video With Data Breach Recovery Advice
The US Federal Trade Commission video has detailed instructions on what to do if personal data of a user is stolen and exposed.
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released a video that tells users what to do if they have been breached and their personal information exposed. This video walks users through the steps to report a data breach, draw up a recovery plan, and salvage their loss.
Available on an FTC blog, the video asks victims to visit identitytheft.gov/databreach for detailed advice based on the information compromised. The website provides a step-by-step follow-up solution depending on what data has been stolen and exposed – whether Social Security number, online login/password or a child’s details.
Also suggested is taking up free credit monitoring and a personal recovery plan to prevent misuse of confidential data.
