vArmour empowers IT professionals to visualize complex applications in virtual and cloud environments

PRESS RELEASE
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – June 10, 2015 – vArmour, the data center security company that transforms how organizations protect their virtualized and cloud assets, today announced the release of vArmour DSS-V Distributed Security System — a free edition of the vArmour DSS Distributed Security System — to provide data center visibility to all. Organizations can now easily download and launch vArmour DSS-V to visualize their complex application traffic in 15 minutes. vArmour DSS-V delivers real-time context and insight into application activity within highly virtualized and cloud environments. With this new tool, security professionals can now identify suspicious activity and policy violations within their data center, something not possible with legacy perimeter solutions.
Most traditional security solutions were not designed for virtual and cloud environments, where the flow of data has changed dramatically. As a result, most organizations struggle to defend themselves from cyber attacks. In 2014 alone, 43 percent of businesses were breached, yet less than 19 percent of breaches were discovered by internal IT staff.*
“The cloud has muddied the waters by diffusing sensitive data across the entire enterprise, from data centers to user applications. It’s a dire vulnerability in today’s cybersecurity epidemic, because you can’t protect what you can’t see,” said Tim Eades, CEO at vArmour. “It’s why we’ve developed this free solution. Visibility is essential in helping organizations identify unauthorized or malicious activity. Building on our unique distributed security approach, we are empowering the security community with a no cost, downloadable product.”
“The data perimeter has always been difficult to define, especially now that more and more organizations are adopting 1:1, BYOD and virtualized data center models,” said Michael McKerley, Chief Technology Officer at ENA, the nation’s leading Infrastructure as a service provider for schools and libraries. “By providing detailed visibility to a very fluid environment, vArmour’s new offering can really help organizations understand their blind spots.”
vArmour continues to disrupt the security space. It started with the industry’s first distributed security system across physical, virtual and cloud environments. Now, vArmour is fundamentally changing how data center security is distributed and deployed, with vArmour DSS-V. This simple, downloadable model changes the way IT professionals evaluate and acquire new security solutions by empowering them to choose the best protection for their environment and eliminating long, hardware-centric procurement processes.
“The threat landscape has become more dangerous, while IT continues to grow increasingly complex," said Jon Oltsik, senior principal analyst at ESG. "Strong cybersecurity demands continuous monitoring, so a data center visibility system should be part of every IT and infosecurity professional’s toolkit. vArmour’s free, downloadable visibility software can fill this role, making it easier for security practitioners to understand what’s happening inside their data center in order to detect and pinpoint anomalous or suspicious activities.”
From the beginning, vArmour’s mission is to protect what matters most to organizations and their customers: their data. “The first step to greater security is being able to see application traffic at a granular level and recognize exact locations if there is cause for concern,” said Tim Eades. “And with our patented micro-segmentation capabilities, we can also help people do something about any bad stuff we see.” Customers can easily upgrade to vArmour’s flagship product, vArmour DSS, which wraps application-level security controls, such as a micro-perimeter, around every workload in the data center to reduce cyber attack surfaces and enable users to regain control over their infrastructure.
“With vArmour, we don’t have to ship a box out for configuration and wait around for results — instead, we can download a data center security solution immediately and illustrate value in a matter of minutes to our customers,” said Chander Makhija, principal and CEO at Decision Focus Inc. “Access to data center visibility and security has never been so simple and easy for us or our customers. vArmour has removed the barriers for IT practitioners to keep their data centers safe.”
