Microsoft today announced its security business surpassed $10 billion in revenue over the past 12 months, reflecting more than 40% growth year-over-year.
In recent years, Microsoft has tightened its focus on strengthening the security of its products and services, as well as rolling out its own security tools. More than 9,000 customers use Azure Sentinel, its cloud-based SIEM made available in September 2019, and 90 of the Fortune 100 use at least four of Microsoft's security, compliance, identity, and management tools, the company reported.
The company also shared some data on the effectiveness of its security tools in 2020. Over the past year, 2.5 billion daily cloud-based detections blocked nearly 6 million endpoint threats. Microsoft Defender blocked more than 30 billion emailed threats, and more than 30 billion authentications were processed daily across 425 million people using Azure Active Directory.
Microsoft announced some product news alongside its revenue announcement. Multicloud support is now available for Azure Security Center, which now provides a unified view of security alerts from Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. Today also marks the availability of Azure Defender for IoT, which aims to add a layer of security to OT networks, and Application Guard for Office, which opens files in a container to protect people from malicious content.
