PRESS RELEASE
SANTA CLARA, Calif., December 2, 2008 -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE) and BT today announced that they have entered into a strategic partnership to provide customers of McAfee(r) Network Security Platform appliance with a managed services offering which combines the unique capabilities of the McAfee brand products with BT's world-class service delivery capabilities and unmatched experience.
With network security risks rapidly growing and compliance mandates becoming more stringent, organizations need to implement an ever-increasing number of security technologies but often find it difficult to hire and retain the highly skilled resources necessary to manage them. Under the agreement, BT will combine its industry-leading managed security solutions, powered by BT Counterpane, with the award-winning McAfee Network Security Platform device to provide joint customers with robust and cost effective protection.
"BT's managed services model will provide McAfee customers with the ability to take full advantage of our powerful network security platform, without needing to directly incur the staffing costs," said Ray Komar, vice president of business development at McAfee. "As concerns about network security grow, McAfee will continue to respond to customer needs by offering the strongest network security solutions possible."
The McAfee Network Security Platform appliance is the industry's first fully extensible content security platform for e-mail and Web security. Network Security Platform delivers multi-Gigabit network IDS/IPS, virtual IPS technology and encrypted threat protection and scans up to five million messages per hour and up to 50,000 concurrent Web users. Customers also receive integrated protection, an easy-to-use platform, broad asset protection, maximized business availability, reduced liability, and security cost avoidance -- all with 10 Gbps performance without security trade-offs.
As part of the continuing global expansion of joint BT and McAfee capabilities, this new offering improves security monitoring by real-time correlation of security events and alerts, utilizing the McAfee platform to its maximum effectiveness.
"This announcement marks an important development for BT and McAfee customers who will benefit from the experience BT has of managing McAfee brand products for nearly 10 years and from BT's position as a global leader in Managed Security Services," said Jeff Schmidt, vice president and general manager, Managed Security Solutions, BT Americas. "All of our device engineers are fully certified on the McAfee Network Security Platform device. In addition to extensive product knowledge, the BT service enables customers to take full advantage of the product from purely passive intrusion detection to in-line blocking and threat prevention."
BT provides Fortune 1000 companies, SMEs and higher-learning and government institutions with managed security services that include: managed security monitoring, device management, vulnerability scanning, managed log retention, and ethical hacking services.
McAfee and BT have developed a set of joint go-to-market processes to efficiently serve their customers and provide for an effective and complete solution. The program will be available in North America in the fourth quarter.
