Alcide Announces $5.2M Seed Round for Data Center & Cloud Operations Security Platform

PRESS RELEASE
Tel Aviv, Israel December 6th, 2017 -- Alcide today emerged from stealth mode launching the industry’s first universal network security platform designed to meet the complex needs of the modern data center, including hybrid, multi-compute and multi-cloud data environments. The seed funding round of $5.2 million, led by Intel Capital and Elron, is indicative of a pressing need in the market, tied to the rapid evolution of data centers.
Alcide is also announcing its exclusive preview program, which already includes select mid and large scale U.S. enterprise software companies. You can apply here. Alcide will be demonstrating its groundbreaking solution at KubeCon in Austin, Texas (December 6-8, 2017, booth #S4).
“The modern data center is where the world’s most critical data is stored and where the most lucrative information lives, yet it has evolved so rapidly and is now so complex that it’s become
The Wild Wild West of Cyber Security,” said Ranny Nachmias, CEO and Co-Founder of Alcide. “The evolution of the modern data center calls for a parallel evolution in the approach enterprises take to secure and manage their data centers. Alcide is leading that revolution.”
"Alcide offers great depth and breadth of visibility and protection for cloud operations. We believe in its potential and the need for such a solution in the market” said Rick Echevarria, Vice President of Intel’s Platforms Security Division.
According to Gartner, worldwide spending on information security will top 113 billion dollars by 2020. And yet, the odds of an organization falling victim to a data breach are now 1 in 4, according to the Ponemon Institute.
Alcide addresses a gaping hole in existing data center security solutions, finally offering a product that meets the needs of all stakeholders responsible for operating and protecting the data center: the development, operations and security teams. It seamlessly integrates with all combinations of legacy and emerging platforms, including cloud, container, VMs and bare metals.
Alcide unites SecOps and DevOps, breaking them free of their silos. By providing real-time panoramic and granular visibility of operations, along with deep analysis and control to manage and secure the rapidly evolving data center, Alcide empowers DevOps and SecOps teams with the tools they need to more efficiently and effectively protect the modern data center from malicious attacks, including internal threats and data exfiltration.
“Enterprises have reached a breaking point that calls for a new kind of solution,” said Alcide CTO and Co-Founder Gadi Naor. “One that works with any platform, built specifically for the complex hybrid data center, to keep their most sensitive data safe.”
Enterprises are increasingly moving to the cloud, and the cloud itself is becoming increasingly more complex. IDC predicts worldwide cloud spending will reach 122 billion dollars this year, with 85 percent of enterprises employing a multi-cloud strategy. Data is stored on multiple types of cloud servers, including both private and public systems. Enterprises have essentially moved their company’s and their customer’s most sensitive information to a place that is nearly impossible to secure. The complexity of how that information is stored and the pace with which the cloud is evolving means that the security safeguards that worked 2 years ago, or even 1 year ago, are no longer capable of managing the security threats of today.
Many of the newest security solutions cater specifically to securing containers, which represent just a small fraction of the modern enterprise data center. Alcide is the first solution built to secure the complex reality of the modern data center, a differentiator that led Intel and Elron to back the Israeli startup with a seed round of $5.2 million.
